This brings me to one of the questions that should have been originally asked: what is the car's VIN and data plate info, especially the build date? And, what is the drivetrain combination, i.e. There may be a possibility that someone forgot to change the numbers from '7' to '8' after the beginning of January 1958, but this would be pretty hard to get past the quality control engineers/inspectors. The EDC-E heads were brought out after the beginning of '58 full-size production as a lower-compression head, thus adding to the confusion. Regular production of '58s began on December 20, 1957, and engines typically would have been assembled within a few weeks before production began.Ī January '57 352 doesn't make sense unless it came from a pre-production/engineering prototype, as the '57 Fords didn't use a 352 FE. All the casting numbers you're finding, with exception of the heads, appear to be in line with the assembly date on the block, and the heads are only a few days later. I am just devastated that I might have the wrong engine. so what do I have? the third figure should be a number and it's a letter?Īnd whats with the AFB? Can anyone shed some light on this?. the third figure should be a number designating month I have the letter A, the fourth figure should be a letter designating date I have P. The second number (7) is the year (1957?). according to the spec sheets the first number (1) is the engine plant 1=Cleaveland.

The code I have is 1-7AP0 ( I think it's a zero). I checked the "engine block assembly date code" and it does not make sense.

The engine visualy is not a 430, it seems to be a 352. The big tip off was the Carter AFB carburetor instead of a 4100. It seem this might not be the correct engine for this car.Oh No!!!! However this morning I made a very disheartening discovery.

I have not paid much attention to the engine because I planned on doing a complete rebuild.
